Speed Training

Speed training myth:

“You cannot train speed.”

For some reason it is a popular belief that you are born with a certain amount of ‘speed’ and you cannot improve it. Nothing could be further from the truth! Most youth athletes are so physically weak and mechanically out of tune that significant improvements in speed can be made,often just by working on form and technique. Athletes at any age and any level can improve speed when implementing a complete speed training program designed to improve and develop their skill sets.

If an athlete wants to improve acceleration and top speed so they can get to the ball faster then they must train at full speed.

We are not just talking about running 40 yd. sprints here. Speed training involves many aspects of training including;

  • Strengthening leg muscles
  • Learning how to accelerate and decelerate
  • Change of direction
  • correct body alignment
  • Recovery
  • Flexibility
  • Proper running mechanics

Performance Training will perform an initial assessment through a series of baseline tests. Devise a personalized training plan based on your athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. Then we’ll work with the athlete through their training and monitor his/her progress, making adjustments along the way.

Speed is everything in sports and as you progress through organized sports, it is crucial for long-term success.
